14 WEEKS – APRIL 2009

This week my mom & I took you to Topsail Island for a Maultsby Girls’ Weekend. We had a blast, and I didn’t feel sick once! You even let me sleep in until 7am one day!
We spent a lot of time chatting and laying around. I read a few books and soaked up some sun. It felt good, like summer was on its way. And of course, I fed you well. Lots of yummy seafood and potluck goodies!

This is the first week I wanted you to be a boy. I always said I wanted a girl, just because we already have Lucas & Avery… But I couldn’t help but watch the little boys on the beach, digging in the sand and chasing each other. I was captivated. The girls didn’t hold my attention. In fact, I found them to be a bit loud and silly! My mom looked over at me at one point and said, “You’re probably going to have a boy…and you’re a boys’ mom.”

So we’ll see! We find out what you are in 2 weeks, before we leave for our cruise…Happy 60th Anniversary, Nina & Papa! We’re leaving from Charleston and hitting Bermuda for 2 days. Your daddy has never been out of the country, so he’s like a little kid with excitement! You’re going to be a world traveler, and you’re not even born yet! Love you, little one.

10 WEEKS – APRIL 2009

Well, little one… it’s becoming real. We had our first OB appointment. They did an ultrasound, so that I could see you! You danced your arms and legs around like nobody’s business… my tiny dancer! I wonder if you’re a girl or a boy. You know I’ll love you either way. Cute boy names and clothes are a bit harder to come up with, but boys seem to have so much personality!

We’ve officially decided to have a homebirth, but I wanted an OB visit at the beginning just to be sure. It’s a good thing I did. After interviewing 2 midwives, we decided to hire Damaris Pittman. She’s licensed by South Carolina and requires an OB visit at the beginning and end of her clients’ pregnancies. How cool? We’d already done that, so I’m going to fax her the record. We won’t start visits until we’re living in South Carolina, so I’ll be about 15 weeks then. She’ll be coming to our house! I’m excited.

The morning sickness is kicking my butt something fierce. Chris gets up around 5am each morning to make me an instant breakfast. Sometimes we switch it up and try sliced apples, or pretzels. He made me a little gift one night, called the “Don’t Throw Up Box.” It had tiny portions of lots of snacks, and a small can of Coke. He’s been nothing short of amazing. I can’t wait for this part to pass, so that we can enjoy you together. Right now, I spend most of my time dry-heaving or sleeping. I’m trying my best to stay pleasant though! According to some, more morning sickness means a healthier baby, and I wouldn’t mind that at all!

Here’s a picture of how we look right now…of course, it’s mostly bloat. But it’s fun to think about the baby bump becoming bigger.

SEVEN WEEKS – MARCH 2009

Chris & I decided that if we got pregnant, it would be an adventure worth taking. We weren’t doing anything to stop it, but I was new to the game and wasn’t expecting much. Little did I know…

One night, Chris called me “Preggo Nancy” so many times, it got me to thinking. I picked up a 2-pack of pregnancy tests the next morning, and took one without telling him. It was positive. Holy crap. It was positive?! I drove straight to his work and asked him to go into the back office. He wouldn’t. So I pulled the thing out of my pocket and showed it to him. He looked shocked, but a huge smile quickly formed on his face. I left shortly after, because I was shocked and embarrassed. We’re pregnant?! But we’ve only been married a month and half! And the first month was very, VERY hard! Good grief!

Over the next few weeks, we took a few more tests and got used to the fact that yes, we were expecting a little one…you! We’d found out at just under four weeks gestation. I had my dates down pretty solid, so I felt confident in giving you a due date right around Halloween.

We told my parents at dinner one night, and his family at a birthday party for Lucas. We gave Lucas a onesie that said, “Born in 2009.” Everyone has been very supportive, and only somewhat surprised. Most of our friends saw it coming. We taped pictures of with the positive pregnancy tests on their front doors. It was a fun week. We’ve decided not to tell the world for a few more weeks though.

We’re having a baby! You’re our baby! Oh my gosh!

pregnancy journal…

I decided to keep my bun-in-the-oven experiences separate from my usual blog…I wandered, once again, over to the world of blogspot and created this thing. Hopefully, this is easy enough for friends & family to keep up with! Baby Kincaid is due sometime around Halloween, and I’m trying to write a little update every few weeks. Enjoy!
