sick days

I’ve been fighting off a cold for a few weeks now. I try really hard to keep my family healthy. Crunchy granola people aren’t supposed to get sick, right?! Alas, I waved the white flag this weekend. The girls seemed a bit under the weather too, so I kept them home on Sunday. We did make an emergency appearance at Target for some supplies while all of the boys were at church…

Yesterday, I managed through a short day at work and got home just in time to collapse into bed and pass out for a few hours. When I awoke, Chris had gotten the yuck himself. We stayed in bed all evening, watching Downton Abbey on the computer. We found some relief with medicated chest rub + t-shirts… A little DIY humidifier never hurt nobody.

Today, I called in sick to work. I absolutely hate doing that, but I simply would not have been able to function with this ridiculous cough, whisper-meets-burly-man voice, and faucet-for-nose. I also have to consider my coworkers and patients’ health. However, I’ve been fever-free for almost an entire day. And the kids seem to be rallying. And Chris & I are now current on Downton Abbey. It’s the little things.
In addition to getting back on my supplements (I’ve been slack) and sleeping a ton, I’ve made a little list of other things that have eased the wrath of the cold monster. Some of these remedies I got from you guys, so thanks!
Emergen-C – A packet in a small glass of water, twice a day.
Elderberry syrup – A teaspoon in a shot of water, a few times a day.
Puffs plus Lotion – God bless those things.
Medicated chest rub – See above silly photo.
Nostrilla nasal spray – Hate it (it’s addicting), but it works. I try to use as sparingly as possible.
Ibuprofen – For the swollen nasal passages & sore throat.
Edy’s frozen pineapple fruit bars – Like a cold cough drop.
Dr. McDougall’s instant Hot & Sour soup with organic ramen – A good kind of burn.
Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwiches – Definitely not organic.

Thankful for the improvement, but I’m three days in and officially over it. OVER IT. Praying for some overnight miraculous healing, but I’ll settle for significant improvement. I don’t want to miss another day of work… and it’s my birthday week. Time to bounce back!
Oh, and take a second to download Christopher’s newest “52” release… it’s free!

Happy Tuesday.

we’ve all had this mess at my house for the past couple of weeks… apparently apple cider vinegar/water mixture in the humidifier is a natural cough suppressant. Seems to be helping us! :)

First of all- you are too cute. Second- I am a HUGE Downtown Abbey fan… Pretty much the best show ever. Third- I’m so sorry you are sick! I hope you feel better! Since you are all crunchy like me, I thought I would share– I use an essential oil blend called “On Guard” to keep colds/flu away. It has cinnamon, eucalyptus, clove bud, rosemary, and wild orange in it. It is pretty much amazing. I have some in my store if you are ever interested. : )

Praying you feel better soon, dear!

Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwiches are at least as good as antibiotics when it comes to getting better. They work MIRACLES on my health at least once a week :)

    Glad y’all are feeling better!

I hope you start feeling better soon! I’m telling you, that crud is going around like it’s its job (I guess that kind of is its job…anywho). I was wondering which carriers you were using for the twins. I’m 33.5 weeks now, woohoo, and I’m getting ready for the baby wearing times. We have an ergo and a moby that’s on the way. I was wondering if you thought having two ergos and wearing one on one hip and one on the other would work? I’d love to hear your thoughts about that.

    Thanks! Hope you feel better.
