Mamas Makin’ It Work – #1

What better way to debut this feature than with a mama y’all already know & love?
Take it away, Danielle!

Before I was a stay-at-home Mom, I was a high school English teacher, and I had to “make it work” more often than I could have ever imagined. On a daily basis close to 175 fifteen to sixteen year olds made their way in and out of my classroom, so you can imagine the constant (controlled) insanity that pervaded my life!  When I left the teaching world to become a full-time mama, I anticipated a much easier life (ha!). Yes, I loved teaching and loved all 175 of my kiddos, but some days the work completely drained me. Fast forward to today, and I find myself still trying to make it work everyday. Yes, I take care of one child now instead of close to 200, but it’s a non stop job with long nights and sometimes little sleep!  It’s hard, but in a different way for sure.

Now Henry is almost 8 months old and I feel like I’m finally getting into the swing of things. In fact just recently I successfully got us ready for a string of 8 houseguests! I prepped, baked, cleaned, and even had time to curl my hair. All during naptime. And that, my friends, is how I make it work now!  Once our guests left I couldn’t help but give myself a pat on the back in frozen yogurt form, and congratulate myself on a job well done. I may miss teaching sometimes, but nothing is more rewarding than making it work as a mama.

…And then there are those of us who do both jobs: High school English teacher and full-time SINGLE mama! Talk about “making it work!” LOL

Yes, it took me about 6 months or so before I felt like I finally had the mama-multi-tasking down. It does feel good. And for all the roles that all of us women successfully perform on a daily basis, we all deserve some frozen yogurt!
