he (or we?) gave it up

This kid made it over three and a half years in a crib, but it is time to move on. He loves his crib, but he’s about to have his world rocked by a new sibling. This will feel much different to him than being seventeen months old and learning to walk by pulling up on his baby sisters’ cradle. We need him jazzed at the idea of sharing his room and passing down his crib at some point in the next several months, so we decided to make the move now. I found a frame on Craigslist but have yet to set it up. For now, he’ll sleep on a mattress on the floor.

He didn’t seem too upset to leave his old sleeping arrangements behind.

His thoughts on the situation, as Avery & I set it up before his nap…

DIS IS MAH NEW BIG BOY BED?! OH MAH GOODNESS.
I’M SO ESS-ITED! ISS SO PWETTY!

It took a few days for him to settle into a nap routine with so much new-found freedom. We occasionally hear him playing at random times during those precious quiet hours. For the most part, though, it’s been a very smooth transition. Maybe it’s because we waited until he was practically a grown man? Hey, whatever works!

I wish we could have kept Jude in his crib for son long. He kept climbing out of the crib so we had to transition him really early (2 yrs) and then he completely dropped naps because he had too much freedom.

These are great pictures by the way!

That was one of my fears… so I’m bummed that he’s not napping well now, but reminding myself that he is nearly four! Thanks!

We transitioned our girl to a big bed in January, at almost 3.5 years old. I am pretty sure she would’ve stayed in there forever, but the husband had other plans. I just told him last night that I wish they made adult-sized cribs, because then I could’ve had a good sleeper forever!
